Hall in Tirol - the largest historic town in Tirol

The 700 year old town of Hall in Tirol is located 10 km east of Innsbruck. In the middleages Hall was by far more important and bigger than Innsbruck and it has the lagest historic city in Tirol. It was the center of trade on commerce in Tirol.

Abundant salt deposits led to the rise of the small town in the 13 century and made it an important eonomic center. The Museum of Salt Mining located in the heart of the old town keeps alive the look and feel of live underground. 

The timeless beauty of the historic buildings in the old town bears whitness to the city's past as wealthy and important town. Further up in the town there is one of Austrias finest town-squares - the Oberer Stadtplatz. Other points of interest are the gothic church St. Nikolaus, the old Town-Hall and the St. Magdalene Chapell.

As the mint was moved from Meran to Hall in the 15th century the importance of Hall grew even bigger. The Mint of Hall located in the scenic Castle Hasegg takes you on a journey back in time when wealth meant minted gold and silver coins. It was here where the first Taler - the ancestor of the Dollar - was minted. Here you also will find an original rebuild of the worlds first minting-machine of the word build after the plans from the middle ages.
